Router consoles hold the network together and gives us access to the World Wide Web. When there is a failure to access the Internet, it is easy to place blame on the Internet Service Providers, however, it is not always the fault of the Internet provider. Sometimes the failure is due to hardware failure which includes router failure. Routers can fail over time due to regular use or normal wear and tear. Electrical power surges can damage routers and the circuitry of network equipment.
Overheating is a major cause of router failure. Consumer grade hardware can run much too hot in an environment with poor air circulation and long term exposure to heat can cause components to degrade and fail. Other router issues include defects in workmanship and materials. In general, consumer grade hardware is not as robustly built as commercial hardware. This means router failures can result in unexpected replacement or repair costs, which is what makes a router service plan an invaluable investment.
Some home protection warranty companies, along with manufacturer warranties, only cover one specific item for a pre-determined amount of time and are usually restricted to defects in materials or workmanship ONLY. Most don’t cover power surges or failures due to normal wear and tear. In most cases, you cannot get your device repaired without the original purchase receipt and/or registration of the product at the time of purchase.
